Hair Update- Trim

Yesterday I went to my old stylist and being pregnant I decided on a whim to let her trim my hair. And yes! She trimmed too much. I am barely grazing BSL but I must say that my hair looks really nice. I've been pretty lazy with keeping it up myself so I think the trim was necessary because even after my May 15th trim from the other stylist, my ends still looked "chewed". I wanted my hair to look neat this time. I will continue to go to my regular stylist every two weeks but I doubt I will let her trim my hair again anytime this year or next ;-) I guess I haven't really been taking my pregnancy hair seriously because I have no idea how it will react to the pregnancy. I don't want to obsess over it growing long and thick and then be upset that it sheds postpartum. I figure I will get back on my hair game and actively grow it out again after the twins are born ::knock on wood:: if I have time. I will post pictures soon.

New Stylist and Hair Update

I decided that I do not want to get relaxers during  my pregnancy so I tried a new stylist on May 15. I was about 12 weeks post relaxer. He washed, applied a reconstructor, conditioned and then had me sit under the hooded dryer. He then had his assistant apply what I believe was a heat protectant and gently blow dry my hair. He then flat ironed or as he called it "silkened" my hair and then trimmed at my request. I'm really grateful for hair dressers who listen to you about your wants. I told him that "I want my hair trimmed but length is important to me". I felt that it was important to say this because many stylist preach "health before length" but I believe there can be a happy medium. He listened to me and only trimmed probably less than an inch. Which was great especially since I had not had a professional trim in several years! I was happy with my hair but I don't know how often I'll go back because he used A LOT of heat. I just scheduled my next appointment for next Tuesday June 12. I figure I will go a few times and see how my hair does since I don't really feel like dealing with it on my own. I don't care if it gets "heat trained/damaged" because I figure that even if I do go natural its unlikely that I'll wear it in its natural kinky state.

I cut two inches off my hair!

I wrote a blog post on hairlista about my thin ends. I said that I was on an experiment to see if they would fill in over 6 months. Well... I failed! I got a big fat F but it feels good! I decided to cut two inches after 4 months. I just could not stand looking at my thin, see through ends... These are pictures of my ugly, thin ends pre- cut....

And these photos were taken during and post cut!

I definitely rid of most of the see through ends and I am very happy. My hair is now grazing BSL which is cool. I have to say that I do miss the length a little but I figure it should be back by December. Moving forward I think I will continue to trim as needed but I will make sure I wait at least 4 months between trims (I need to see my progress to stay motivated ;) ).

I am not completely sure what caused the thin ends. I mean, they were not split... just thin. I think my thin ends are the result of my salon days when I let the stylist over process my hair during the relaxer. When I started self-relaxing, I found that my hair had a little more texture and thickness. I relax straight but not pin straight if that makes sense. I think overtime, the slight difference in textures caused the ends to appear very thin. Well, moving forward I will continue with my regimen and pray that my ends grow and remain thick...
